A puzzle for us and our readers?

How does it come about that a hard working, (16 hours a day,) and apparently conscientious and competent GP, when GPs are in the business of referring people to specialists, refer one of his regular patients who’s been using him for six years to one of the worst specialists on the planet – a specialist who not only turned out to be a “waste of time” doctor, (at a cost to the patient of over $6,000,)  but one who did him significant harm that can’t be reversed and which will be with him for the rest of his life ?

Did he just not know? Or is there more to this than meets the eye?

And if he just didn’t know, how widespread is this? – GPs referring patients to specialists as bad as this one?

We’re thinking about this one, not quite sure where to go next.
